Joe Biden, at 81, is the oldest person to ever serve as President of the United States.
Let’s face the truth: he’s no Spring Chicken.
His age has been a running theme for those on the Right, even though his opponent is nearly 78, and is obviously suffering from frontotemporal dimentia.
Aside from all the hysterics about Mr. Biden’s age, I believe there is a clear answer that he and Vice-President Harris can employ to assuage the fears of those concerned: outline the future.
On the right, we know the truth: Republicans will never want a WOMAN in charge of this nation, so they would detest VP Harris moving into the role of President right out of the starting gate. And we have seen clearly, through their vehement hatred towards President Obama, that they detest anyone of color holding the office. They would rather have a raping, lying, nuclear-secrets-stealing con-man—as long as he’s White—than a woman or a person of color.
On the left, most Democrats agree Mr.Biden has done a remarkable job: the economy is growing, infrastructure being rebuilt, and international allliances have been reworked. While the mess in Gaza has hurt Mr. Biden—and his continued position to supply Israel with more weapons is hurting America around the world and hurting him at home—he has a strong grip on all matters, foreign and domestic.
Except his age.
Joe Biden, like all of us, can not stop time. And while none of us have a crystal ball, we all know the average American man doesn’t usually make it into his 80s, let alone 86 (how old Biden would be at the end of a second term).
Enter Kamala Harris.
If something were to happen to Mr. Biden, Ms. Harris would rise to the office of President, and much like those who have played that part before, it would be a major challenge. No doubt Harry Truman struggled those first few days, finding out finally about the Manhattan Project. It can be written that anyone who must ascend to that role has faced extraordinary challenges, and Ms. Harris would have hers. At the same time, the GOP would, with their poison-lie-machine at Fox News, beat on her daily: nothing she said or did would ever satisfy those people.
And surely, she would not concern herself much for the blather from the Right, because it’s always there, chomping away at the truth, turning facts into falsehoods and truth into lies. She would need something—someone—to turn the attention of these fools away. Someone who could step in and kick their ass without blinking.
I think I have found the perfect new VP to support a President Harris: a person steeped in foreign policy. A person with a towering resume’ going back to the Nixon years, yet still astonishingly relevant. A person who is strong in both foreign and domestic policy, who could run the Senate, and who would not take any shit from the Republicans.
A person who would be the perfect Vice-President to a President Harris.
That’s right: Hillary Rodham Clinton.
She has served this nation honorably in numerous capacities. She has been a U.S. Senator and Secretary of State, and still has an incredible understanding of policy in both areas. She is well-read, and speaks clearly on the issues. She is loyal, and a faithful and true Democrat.
And the Republicans hate her.
They hate her because, unlike them, HRC knows her stuff. She doesn’t run and hide from subpoenas—she shows up and testifies!
Ms. Clinton was hated by the GOP for all the right reasons: she’s brilliant, she’s affable, she’s prepared, but more than anything else, they hate her because she is a woman. The GOP despises letting any woman run anything: they love the patriarchal system that has run this nation for all of its nearly 250 years.
Beyond that, Putin hates her: she would be the most ferocious of teammates helping a President Harris win the world for democracy.
In my eyes, there can be no better person to be the new VP.
Let’s hope we never need to go there.
If, however, the day came when Mr. Biden was no longer able to proceeed, I believe Ms. Harris selecting Ms. Clinton as her VP would send the loudest signal of “we got this” to the world, to the Democrats, and especially to the GOP and Putin.
Hillary Clinton would be a solid partner in all the affairs of state. Letting the world know she is prepared to take office would give everyone concerned about Mr. Biden’s age a sense of relief.
We’re not asking Joe to go: we love you, Mr. President.
But the people need to see a plan that protects them, a plan that shows this was clearly thought out and answered with the best answer possible. Backing up our own incredible VP Harris now with another incredible woman sends a clear message and provides a sense of confidence to Democrats throughout this election and into the future.
We want the Biden/Harris ticket to continue, but if it can’t for any reason, we want to know the necessary plans have been made to continue Bidenomics under Ms. Harris.
And there is simply no better choice than Hillary Rodham Clinton.
