Mike Johnson has been the Speaker of the House for just a little while now, but he’s been a Christian—or so he claims—his whole life.
And that makes him an expert.
Or so he claims.
In an interview he gave before he became Speaker, Johnson is heard badmouthing America and it’s citizens. Here’s a link to the video.
In case you missed it, here’s what Johnson said:
“You all know the terrible state we’re in…the faith in our institution’s is the lowest it’s ever been in the history of our nation. The culture is so dark, and depraved, that it almost seems irredeemable at this point. Church attendance has dropped below 50%…and the number of people who do not believe in absolute truth is now above the majority for the first time. One is three teen girls contemplated suicide last year, one in four high school students identified as something other than “straight,” um…we’re losing the country.”
Faith in our institutions Mr. Johnson?
Weren’t you one of those in Congress who refused to certify the Presidential Election of 2020—the same election that was certified by all 50 states? And aren’t you the same Mike Johnson who claimed that it’s God who lifts up leaders? How then, did Joe Biden win the 2020 election without God lifting him up? Could it be our institutions are not trusted because of the ungod-like actions of people like you?
Maybe it’s you who hasn’t been willing to accept God’s will, Mr. Johnson?
Irredeemable you say?
Have you forgotten what your savior died for, Mr. Johnson—for the sins of all mankind? How dare you doubt the power of the Redeemer?
Church attendance dropping?
Is that a measure of the depravity of our nation’s people, or is it a measure of our people’s ability to think for themselves, to decide for themselves—as permitted by the First Amendment of the Constitution—which, if any god, they will worship? Is it possible that you only see those Americans who believe in the same god as you as worthy, while those who don’t attend your church are “depraved?’ For the record, Mr. Johnson, Jesus loved—and died for—us all.
One in four teens identified as something other than “straight?”
Really—you’re still banging on that homosexual drum of yours? Tell me, Mr. Holier-than-though, where in the Bible does Jesus bad-mouth, put down, or curse homosexuality? Nowhere you say? Isn’t it Jesus who eats with the prostitutes, the tax collector, and the pagans? How, then, are you looking down your nose at those Jesus embraced?
Perhaps you have forgotten the lessons Jesus taught:
Love God with all your heart
Love your neighbor (all the neighbors)
Love your brother, and be prepared to give your life for him
Love your enemy, and pray for those who curse you
Why did Jesus teach so much about love, Mr. Johnson?
One who claims to live his life in accordance with the Word of God will know this answer without thinking, without looking it up. One who lives his life in accordance with scripture—as you have suggested that you do—will be the shining light on the hill, acting in ways that bring glory to God.
Mr. Johnson, we’re waiting for your answer?
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.
Proverbs 10:12
Mr. Johnson, your heart wreaks of hatred, of deception, of evil. You do not bring glory to your God; you cast Him down and exalt yourself, claiming you know why America is this way.
When you speak of how depraved we all are, do you include yourself?
“And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Mt. 23:12
Mr. Johnson, you speak about how depraved America is, but how could that be true?
Is this the same "depraved" America where God chose the leaders and "lifted them up"? Didn’t the Republicans hold power in both houses of Congress and the White House just a short time ago? If God so loved the GOP—because they are so righteous—how then did the Democrats wrest power away? Did Democrats overpower your God, or was it more like you have said—”God lifts up leaders”—and He lifted up the Democrats to cleanse America of wicked Republicans?
Is this the same "depraved" America that God ordained as the new promised land to Christians? Is it the same land that was "discovered" by order of the Pope through the Doctrine of Discovery, giving those same Christians some God-given rights to the land, while not respecting the religious beliefs of the Indigenous? Did God do that or did man? Would a Holy God build a nation rooted in stolen land, slavery, and a godless Constitution? Has America always been “depraved?”
Is this the same "depraved" America that has always been able to secure God's blessings to win wars but couldn't secure God's blessings against terror attacks? Do you think God loves America more when we fight wars, but He was angry with us on 9-11, so He let us get attacked?
Is this the same "depraved" America that God loves so much He gives us more than enough guns but not enough food or housing? If this is God—one that arms us to the teeth and loves us fighting wars, is it any wonder why so many Americans have left the church?
Is it just possible that God's wrath was Donald Trump losing the 2020 election and the GOP losing control of the Congress and White House?
Is it possible that God is angry with you, Mr. Johnson, for claiming to love Jesus while refusing to love your immigrant neighbor, your Palestinian brother, or to pray for your enemies--the Democrats?
Calling America depraved while at the same time supporting Donald Trump is rich. You might need to spend some locked in that closet—no, no, not that closet, Mr. Johnson. Your prayer closet.
And while you’re in there, be careful what you pray for Mr. Johnson: that wrath may be coming for you.
