The endless onslaught must end
Instead of asking for my money, Biden needs to concern himself with my vote
America is at an inflection point.
So the president tells us. America is teetering on the brink of extinction, flirting with being overtaken by autocrats. Democracy itself is on the line. I get it.
To save America, The Biden campaign needs my money — now.
They needed my money yesterday. They need some today also, and will no doubt need more tomorrow. Rent be damned, the campaign needs to be funded. And then, it will need some more.
And then, just a little bit more after that.
In the unlikely event that I forgot, they just reminded me again.
For the 75th time in April.
The Biden campaign, destined to set records for raising money, works like a battering ram, hammering away at my email account each day: 1, 2, 3 emails at least.
EVERY. single. DAY.
I understand what we’re up against here. Letting that ‘other guy’ win is out of the question. And campaigns need a lot of money.
Billions of dollars were spent on the 2020 Presidential campaign. Billions more will be spent this time, much of it dark money being contributed by everyone and anyone who has money and wants to buy influence.
To date, neither campaign has spent that much — yet — but it is still April. But that hasn’t stopped either side from fund raising.
And oh boy do they fund raise!
Email seems to be the primary fund raising tool used by Democrats: I get emails from Democratic candidates in places I’ve never heard of before. I get emails daily from someone running as a Democrat even before they have won their primary.
The stakes are high, and the meter is running. And if you are a recent contributor to any Democratic campaign as I am, you are getting pounded by an endless onslaught of emails.
This month alone, I have received no less than seventy-five emails from the Biden campaign. Mind you, many are repeats, which at least suggests they are interested in saving money, not having to create a new ad each time.
Here’s one of the regulars:
Don’t you just love how they’re so familiar, calling me by my first name, like we’re old pals or something.
At least they admit they’re emailing me a lot, but I don’t think the campaign recognizes what all those emails are doing to me.
THEY’RE DRIVING ME CRAZY!
RIGHT TO THE BRINK OF BLOCKING THEM FOREVER!!!
Emailing voters has long been the tried-and-true method of fund raising used by the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, while email is supposed to be a two-way tool for communicating with each other, the Dems use it only to push notifications to voters that they desperately need more money.
If you think I’m complaining about nothing — that emails aren’t really a problem, or you think that maybe I’m not getting that many emails — take a look at this piece I wrote in 2022. It is a summary of the email monster unleashed by the Democrats then on their own supporters.
If you checked, you would have seen it is 22 minutes long: that suggests just how many Democrats — including a multitude of folks I had never heard of before — were asking for money.
Debbie Stabenow, Raphael Warnock, Jaime Harrison, Mark Kelly, Tim Ryan, Adam Schiff, Lucas Kunce, and OMG! the 2022 campaign seemed like it would never end! Dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of Democratic candidates asked me for money in 2022.
For what it’s worth, I gave what I could, but somewhere along the line, I wanted accountability: I demanded the chance to interact with any of these candidates who I was forking over money to.
In 2022, I sought interaction with various campaigns. Specifically, I wrote, emailed, called, and even signed up for Zoom sessions all in an attempt to actually be able to speak with “the candidate” about issues concerning the nation.
As the 2022 campaign season rolled out, I reached out to numerous campaigns, hearing from only one. The one I reached out to won: every other Democratic candidate whose campaign ignored the voters while asking repeatedly for money lost.
The only campaign that responded won.
Joe Biden is now bombarding me with campaign crap like I just drank a gallon of laxatives, and it’s no less daunting. How do I survive another six months under this siege?
If I had simply given a $25 contribution every time the Biden campaign asked me this month alone, I would have given $1,875 in April!
As I struggle with this, I look at the emails coming in, and I wonder: should I give more money, should I try to get more involved, or should I simply block the campaign from ever sending me another email or text — EVER!
Yes, the survey. The same survey that Val Demings sent me. And Beto O’Rourke. And countless other Democrats who have tricked me into providing them my email address by making me feel included — through a survey I completed that they never even looked at!
To be honest, I am sick of campaigns: I am sick of campaign emails.
While I like Joe Biden and believe he has done a really good job as president, his campaign is no different from any of the others. All they know if money, money, money. That’s all they truly care about.
They don’t give a damn about me or what issues I care about. They won’t read the survey results, and they certainly won’t reach out to me for anything other than money.
It makes me feel disconnected.
I feel like a piggy bank, and no matter who is shaking the money out of me, the feeling is the same, and I don’t like it.
I understand the need for mountains of money: I know how much the billionaires will provide to that sick, orange monster if they think he has a chance to win. And I know Dems don’t have time to jabber on with every voter: just gimme the damn money already!
So, I get it, but the endless stream of emails is still….
I know no one from the Biden campaign will ever read this. Hell, to be honest, I’ll be lucky if anyone reads it. But that shouldn’t keep me from writing something that is important.
I wouldn’t mind getting all those emails if I thought for one second — just once — that someone from the campaign would hear me. Hear us.
It seems to me that while Mr. Biden has done a fine job as president, there is one persistent problem that I am really pissed about. Seems many other Americans are too.
It’s Gaza.
Gaza and the unrelenting murder of Palestinians by our ally, Israel.
Can anyone tell me how these children are terrorists deserving of death?
Mr. Biden has said repeatedly that the U.S. is a steadfast partner with Israel. And from a national security perspective, I understand that. But when I see — when America sees — all those children being murdered, one every 10 minutes according to the U.N., then I have to ask how in the hell can we continue to be partners with such a murderous monster?
Yeah, yeah, October 7th, and all that bull — I know the long history of Zionism in Palestine too: seventy-five years of oppression of the Palestinian people by Israel and the United States.
Yes, The United States.
Partners with colonialists. Committing atrocities for decades. And now genocide.
So, I want to ask Mr. Biden — how in the hell can the United States continue to support this? And, if I give you my campaign contribution, and you win, is the United States going to continue to let this murdering son-of-a-bitch continue his killing spree?
Joe — for God’s sake — not with my money!
I love ya Joe, and I love this country. I love our democracy, even though it hasn’t yet lived up to the promises made in our founding documents. Like you, I want to continue to work to achieve those goals, and I don’t want to let any nasty, raping, thieving, cowardly orange bag of puss back in the White House.
But I can’t take another murder of another innocent child in Gaza!
And if giving you my money means U.S. policy will continue to give money and munitions to Israel, well, to quote the Sharks —
I’M OUT.
I cannot possibly give you one single cent until I hear you say that the killing has ended in Gaza, that you have used your awesome power as president to take away Netanyahu's ability to kill.
That’s where the rubber meets the road for me.
It’s not about the economy. It’s not about inflation. It’s not about health care, or abortion, or climate change.
It’s about DEMOCRACY.
Protecting Democracy here must mean protecting democracy everywhere. Even in Gaza, where the people’s right to life is being taken away.
And so far, I have not seen any evidence to suggest another Biden administration will be any different regarding Gaza.
Gaza is all about democracy, and democracy is all about life.
Without a clearly different approach to Gaza than what we have seen these last few months — where the administration shrugs and tells us they’re talking about a cease fire, or hoping to deliver more aid —
none of that matters if you don’t stop the killing!
Americans, I believe, will overwhelmingly vote Joe Biden in for a second term — regardless of the endless emails — if he can find the courage to end the killing of democracy in Gaza.
We must have an end to the killings in Gaza, and we must end our contributions to Israel’s war machine.
Before Mr. Biden sees an end to campaign contributions.
