For the record, I am a white man.
America is in turmoil, and at least one of the reasons is our hate of women: White American men have a collective hate of women.
At least a large portion of them men do.
I believe the white American man hates women because it is taught to them: men, from the earliest age are taught to take charge over women, to protect the female, that “it’s a man job.”
Bullshit.
Women in this country have been subject to intimidation, lust, rape, fear, subjugation, misogyny, and so many more ugly attitudes born mostly out of religion. The white man’s hatred of women can be traced directly to the Bible.
To the woman he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Gen. 3:16
Many American men have been raised in homes that have used the Bible as the standard of behavior, and right off the bat, the Bible forces women to submit to men. Women are to be “put in their place,” while men are taught to never listen to a woman again:
To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.” Gen. 3:17
White men arriving from Europe understood their position as the head of the household, the leader of the community, and the one who should write laws and form nations. In doing so, white men kept all the rights for themselves.
Men fear women.
Long before the United States became a nation, women were being seen as a threat to the white man’s power. Women who didn’t follow the social norms of the day were castigated, called whores, or worse.
Salem.
As American culture evolved, the cries for equality emerged, with women first securing the right to vote—150 years after the Constitution was passed—they then worked for equality both in the home and at work (something still not accomplished fully).
Men continue to believe women are inferior in thinking, in doing, in creating, in—well, for many men, women have only one purpose. They are to be seen and not heard. They are to be like Barbie—to be played with at the man’s discretion, and nothing more.
Women are objects.
All of this hidden, resentful emotion causes men to either lash out at women or to manipulate women. If he can’t control her, he’ll use her…for his purpose.
The Republican Party has been a tough nut to crack when it comes to making room for women. Here’s a recent photo of Republican women that serve in Congress.
Curiously, the color must have washed out of American women.
Where the GOP permits women, it limits their roles. It limits which ones will rise, and which ones won’t because men are still calling the shots.
Republicans also continue to use women for their own gain: to step up or over any woman for political gain, or to punish all women for political capital.
Roe.
In the past few years, we have seen a few examples of how the leader of the Republican Party has stepped on women for his own advantage. Aside from grabbing women’s private parts or forcing himself on one in a changing room, Donald Trump uses women for his own perceived political advantage.
On January 6, 2021, Trump sent his mob of terrorists towards the Capitol building with the sole intention of overthrowing our government: we know the story too well to repeat here.
But one person who paid the price that day for Trump was Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran who came when Trump called her to “fight like hell.” Ashli Babbitt died that day.
Donald Trump is responsible for the death of Ashli Babbitt.
After her death, when her family and friends called for an investigation, for justice for Ashli, Trump claimed she was murdered. Without ever acknowledging the truth about why Ashli was there that day—to fight for his insurrection—Trump lied to the world as he has done so many times. He used Ashli to try to secure his insurrection, then after it failed, tried to blame her death on everyone but the one person responsible.
Donald Trump.
About a month ago, another woman died at the hands of a murdering beast. Laken Riley, a college student in Georgia, was killed at the hands of an immigrant—a man who had been in this country seemingly for years awaiting an amnesty hearing.
Last week, Trump was found once again stepping all over the tragic death of Laken Riley. Here is a photo of Trump holding Laken’s picture.
As if it were not sick enough to stand smiling with her family, Trump couldn’t even spell the woman’s name correctly.
But Trump doesn’t care about Laken Riley or Ashli Babbitt: Trump only uses these women—these white women—to drive fear in the minds of his primary tool for re-election.
White Men.
He failed Ashli Babbitt when he lied to her, both in bringing her to Washington and in what he said and did after the insurrection.
He failed Laken Riley as well.
Last month, Republicans in the Senate put together a tough immigration bill, but Trump told the Speaker of the House to not even vote on it as it would give the current president, Joe Biden, 'a win' in an election year.
How could any of us forget Trump campaigning in 2016 that he would "build a wall and get Mexico to pay for it?" After winning the White House, Trump had a Republican Senate and Republican House, yet never passed an immigration bill to address migrants coming here and waiting 6 years.
He never built the wall.
Trump and the GOP had two years to fix the border and they did NOTHING! Yet they have the utter audacity to blame Laken Riley’s death on Joe Biden, when in truth it's all on Trump for doing NOTHING then and for blocking that GOP bill now.
Donald Trump hates women: he has bad-mouthed them, belittled them, and forced himself on them. He cheated on every woman he ever married and bragged about it. This is the same man who said publicly that if she weren’t his daughter, he would probably date Ivanka.
Donald Trump is the epitome of the White American woman-hating male.
Trump is what every sick white American male was taught he should be: the dominant, controlling male. The one in charge of the woman.
It takes great effort from American men to throw off these beliefs, to embrace treating women with respect, with equality. It can be done, but it takes effort, not games. Games are what is played by Trump and the GOP, designed to continue their control over women and their lives.
And their bodies.
When white women die in America, look for Republicans to find a way to benefit from it. When a Black woman dies, they never take notice. If people protest the death of a Black woman, white men like Trump denounce the protestors.
When Sandra Bland died in jail, it was protested by Black men, including football star Colin Kaepernick. But Republicans, led by Trump himself responded with derision and scorn towards Kaepernick’s kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games.
'Get that son of a bitch off the field'
was Trump’s ugly, racist-filled rant against Kaepernick, who lost his career to protest the ongoing police brutality seen all too often in this nation.
Police have a long, ugly history of abuse toward Blacks in America. The Second Amendment is rooted in the ‘necessity’ of whites to protect themselves against Blacks.
“To commit the largest genocide in known history, a society must create an implacable police state to terrorize millions of people into remaining in slavery. And to maintain that police structure to prevent those former slaves and genocide victims from fully participating in modern society, the society will need guns. Lots of guns.”
“Hartmann, Thom. The Hidden History of Guns and the Second Amendment: How to Talk about Race, Religion, Politics, and Other Polarizing Topics. United States: Berrett-Koehler Publishers, 2019.
When a white woman dies, Trump and the Republican Party try to find some twisted way to blame the death on Democrats, even if it means lying—which no longer appears to be off-the-table for most Republican men. But when a Black woman dies, or an Indigenous woman, or an Asian women, these white men who claim to love their god fail to notice.
Women are pawns in some sick, demented Republican belief system.
America is divided, but by more than party.
Religion is a foundational partner in the brewing stew of animosity, playing a lead role in racism, patriarchy, and women’s health decisions. Too many hate-filled white men tend to be raised on biblical values, and as long as that continues women will continue to be subject to the men who live those beliefs.
America is divided by party, by race, by sex, and at the root of these is religion, more specifically the Judeo-Christian religious set that predates our society yet continues to try to drag women back to the fourth century.
The Republican Party suggests that American culture is on the decline due to our lack of embracing these biblical beliefs: they repeat the lies about gays, and trans people today in the same way they did about Blacks. They repeatedly argue that marriages are failing because women aren’t in the home, baking cookies and raising the children while Dad golfs and drinks beer.
The religious fervor of the right has now spilled into our courts, where our laws are now being turned back: what Republicans have done is insist, first through the courts and soon, if they can through the law, that woman don’t have the right to decide for themselves.
Today it is abortion. Tomorrow, birth control. Eventually, it will be all women’s rights.
Donald Trump and the Republican Party only care about how they can use women. Don’t trust them, or you’ll end up like Ashli Babbitt or Laken Riley.
Dead, then used and tossed aside.
Or worse, like Sandra Bland.
Dead, then forgotten.
